Entrepreneurs, innovators and start up businesses from across North East Victoria and Southern NSW are set to benefit after ACRE was awarded a federal government grant of $491,000 to establish a business incubator as part of the government’s $23 million Incubator Support initiative.

Breakout Accelerator is a partnership between ACRE and SecondMuse which is a collaboration agency focused on high-impact ecosystem incubation.

Centred around the creation of a new incubator at the Old Beechworth Goal, ACRE’s Breakout Accelerator program is designed to leverage regional, national and international networks in order to open up and introduce regional and rural startup entrepreneurs to the broad innovation ecosystem.

The funding was announced by Karen Andrews, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology with the ACRE project being one of five projects from across Australia funded during this round.

“The Coalition’s $23 million Incubator Support initiative connects entrepreneurs with top-quality research, business advice and talent, which will help them realise their economic potential earlier” Minister Andrews said.

The program will be delivered in partnership with SecondMuse, who focus on building resilient future economies that provide for both people and the planet. This partnership will leverage the assets of the two organisations by combining ACRE’s learning and development programs and local connections with SecondMuse’s infrastructure and networks that support internationally focussed innovation.

ACRE exists to build a thriving Australia through igniting entrepreneurship in young people and their communities. The Breakout Accelerator program is a critical next step in delivering on our mission. There is amazing entrepreneurial talent across regional Australia, and we hope that this program not only succeeds in opening up new and exciting markets for local businesses, but also that the program can be replicated in other rural communities.

Breakout Accelerator is a 12-month program that will identify ten entrepreneurs to participate in a sequence of in-person events, online workshops, mentoring and market access opportunities, based out of the new coworking space in the Old Beechworth Goal.
