Social Enterprise Schools is a collaborative, hands-on program that empowers young people to make a difference to causes they care about through running their own social enterprise.
Primary and secondary students from these schools will trade at the 2022 Social Enterprise Schools market day:
- Greta Valley Primary School
- Wooragee Primary School
- St Joseph’s Primary School, Beechworth
- Cathedral College Wangaratta
- Merrijig Primary School
- Myrrhee Primary School
- MyrtlefordP12
The market provides a chance for students to explain the ‘why’ behind their social enterprise. The 2022 market day will include unveiling of a new online market place to boost e-commerce opportunities for students who are part of Social Enterprise Schools
Tom Colcott, Social Enterprise Schools Learning Coordinator said “We continue to be blown away by the ideas that students come up with to support their cause. The students are excited to see their social enterprises launch online, giving them more opportunity to generate profits for the cause they are passionate about”.
Social enterprise is a business, for good. They trade like any other business, but exist specifically to make the world a better place. Social enterprises do three things:
- Have a social, cultural or environmental purpose
- Generate a substantial portion of their income from trade
- Invest profit and resources into their purpose so that public/community benefit outweighs private benefit
The market day is open to all, with students trading from 10am – 11.30am.
The Market Day coincides with the 2022 Social Enterprise World Forum Rural Gathering being hosted by the Australian Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship (ACRE). The Academy is ACRE’s enterprise and learning development partner, based at the Old Beechworth Gaol.
