For more than ten years ACRE has been working to rejuvenate rural communities through social enterprise.
Matt Pfahlert shares why the forming of a rural social enterprise network will accelerate change in rural Australia.
There is a need to rapidly accelerate change in rural Australia – which is why we’re inviting those interested, to join us in co-designing a potential rural social enterprise network in Australia.
The journey started over seven years ago, when ACRE initiated the development of SENVIC.
Two years ago the work was furthered with the development of the Rural Manifesto for Social Enterprise as part of the SEWF 2022 Rural Gathering.
The Manifesto and Network represent a unified effort to drive positive social and economic outcomes in rural communities.
The Network will embody the Manifesto’s call for transformative change in rural areas.
In partnership with Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) and Social Enterprise Network Victoria (SENVIC) – we are sharing the journey up until this point and inviting others to join us to co-design a rural social enterprise network for Australia!

A snapshot of the journey to this point:
- Back in 2022, the inaugural Rural Manifesto was first initiated with SENVIC.
- The work was furthered at the Rural Gathering – co-hosted by ACRE and Social Enterprise World Forum in late 2022.
- Officially launched at the World Forum in Amsterdam, 2023.
- The Manifesto for Rural Social Enterprise is now on its way to the UN General Assembly.
- And this is just the beginning!
